I’ve read this passage before in the Bible, but today the words flew off the thin, scritta paper and hit me, hard. Suddenly, I had the vision that I was standing in the middle of the road, alone, watching a truck speeding toward me, helpless to move, expecting imminent death, but an invisible force mightily shoved me aside just before the truck would hit. I fell to the ground, exhausted and grateful. “My light will shine for you a just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going. Put your trust in the light while there is still time; you will become children of the light.” John 12:35-36 My throat swelled up and chest tightened. I took off my 2.0 readers and sobbed. I get it. Thank you, Jesus for showing me the way, for helping me be a light in darkness, for giving me peace in my heart, health, and the will to do your work - to encourage and empower others. After a few minutes of crying with joy and understanding that I’ve been saved from that barreling truck, awakened to the light that shines for us all, my friend Ward texted me this: With churches being empty on Easter Sunday, I wondered if that is a little bit like the empty tomb. The disciple Peter represents the human element of the Easter story. Judas gives up Jesus but it is Peter who denies Him three times. I wondered if I would have done the same—will do the same. Two common thieves were crucified with Him to which He proclaims, “Today you will be with me in paradise.” Is there a lesson in that short verse, a teachable moment? Why do many Christians place more importance on Christmas than Easter? Are our priorities misplaced? The empty tomb is the central theme of Easter and perhaps the most important message in the entire Book. - Ward We are all experiencing a lack of freedom to do the things we took for granted, like going to church on Easter. There is darkness all around us. Especially now. Don’t let it take hold of you. Today, sisters and brothers, put your trust in the light while there’s still time. Happy Easter 🙏🏻✨
