What if – in addition to reading, ‘rithmatic and writing, schools taught courses on Personal Development? As kids, we develop defense mechanisms and coping strategies as survival skills. When someone said or did something that caused us even the slightest bit of discomfort, we reacted in a way that made us feel better and safe. Perhaps we avoided negative situations or people who made us feel badly about ourselves. But those types of people will continue to show up in our lives until we learn how to deal with them.
Study the Enneagram if you want to find out more about your personality and why you do the things that you do. It’s opened my eyes to the behavior of others and my reaction to it. I wish I would have known about the Enneagram years ago, but then again, everything happens for a reason and the reason I’ve endured trials and tribulations beyond what I thought I could handle is because I needed to learn some cold, hard lessons about the way I allowed people to treat me. For years, I was a red carpet and allowed others to belittle me and take advantage of my people pleasing ways. Now, girlfriend, it’s time for me! I get to be happy!

It’s not easy to make changes, but if I can do it, you can too!
